easyJet has launched the first flights and holidays on a new summer route from Glasgow Airport to Porto in Portugal, providing customers in Scotland with an even greater choice of beach destinations this summer.
The first flight took off on Friday 31st March and is now operating up to twice a week on Mondays and Fridays throughout the summer season until 27 October 2023.
Positioned at the mouth of the Douro River, whose surrounding landscape is Unesco-listed, not only is Porto the gateway between Europe and the Atlantic, but it is also responsible for giving both Portugal and its world-famous fortified wine their names. During the daytime, holidaymakers can wander through the cobbled streets while enjoying the city’s traditional francesinha snack, before settling in to soak up the night’s music and entertainment on either side of the river.
Ali Gayward, easyJet’s UK Country Manager, said: "We are delighted to have celebrated the launch of our new service from Glasgow to Porto, providing our Scottish customers with direct and convenient departures twice a week and brilliant city break packages to this beautiful Portuguese city.
“We are proud to be the largest airline in Scotland and this summer we’re offering more seats to and from Scotland than ever before, providing customers with great value fares and packages and more choice when they fly or holiday with us.”
Ronald Leitch, Operations Director at Glasgow Airport, said: “We are really pleased to have welcomed the passengers and crew of this first flight on easyJet’s new Porto service.
“Portugal is a really popular destination with our passengers and the addition of this beautiful costal destination offering city-break vibes and stunning golden sand beaches should be a big hit with them.”
The new route means that holidaymakers from Glasgow can book great value package holidays to Porto with easyJet holidays.
Some of the best value breaks with Europe’s fastest growing tour operator include three nights at the 4* Vila Gale Porto on Bed & Breakfast for £339 per person, the 5* Sheraton Porto Hotel & Spa on Room Only for £427 per person, or the HF Ipanenema Park on Bed & Breakfast for £371 per person.
The airline is also set to launch flights from Glasgow to Lisbon for the first time on 3 June. The new services will be operating up to twice a week on Tuesdays and Saturdays throughout the summer season, providing customers in Scotland with even more direct and convenient connections to Portugal. With flights available from £26.99*, and package holidays available with easyJet holidays.
27 years ago, easyJet’s first-ever flight, EZY121, took off for Glasgow from London Luton. Since then, easyJet has grown to become the largest airline in Scotland and now serves four Scottish airports – Edinburgh, Glasgow, Aberdeen, and Inverness – offering customers up to 70 routes across 17 countries in Europe, North Africa and the Middle East, and has flown over 104 million passengers to and from Scotland to date.
