The 5 best outdoor activities in Hurghada

The 5 best outdoor activities in Hurghada

The Red Sea Coast is packed with sun, sea and fun, and there’s no better place to get a taste of it than in Hurghada, Egypt’s premier tourist resort. Enjoy a complete get-away-from-it-all with these fabulous outdoor activities.

1. Scuba diving

Situated among reefs, shipwrecks and protected nature areas, Hurghada is home to some of the most diverse marine life in the world. Depending on when you visit, you can see Giant moray eels, reef sharks, bottlenose dolphins, eagle rays, even dugongs and whale sharks if you’re lucky. This activity is suitable for experts and novices alike.

2. Take a trip in a submarine

If you want to go deep but are not comfortable with scuba diving, then a submarine tour is for you. These trips take you down into the open water of the red sea for a chance at seeing some of its colourful inhabitants.

3. Swim with dolphins

Appropriately nicknamed Dolphin House, Sha’ab Samadai reef is regularly visited by spinner dolphins and has perfect snorkelling conditions. Watching these playful dolphins in their natural habitat and swimming along with them is an unforgettable experience.

4. Ride a horse

It’s easy to forget the beauty above water in Hurghada, but there’s no better way to remind yourself than from the back of a horse. From galloping down the beach as the sun sets to sprinting across the sand dunes of the desert, horse riding is wildly exhilarating. It’s worth noting that many riding schools take animal welfare seriously too, so the horses are well looked after.

5. Go on a quad bike safari

For a unique experience, take a four-wheeled trip through the rolling sand dunes and spectacular mountains of the Egyptian desert, stopping off at a Bedouin village for a look at the history of life in the sand. Most operators provide bandanas but not always goggles, so don’t forget your sunglasses.
