United Airlines Launches Nonstop Daily Seasonal Service Between Glasgow and Newark/New York

United Airlines Launches Nonstop Daily Seasonal Service Between Glasgow and Newark/New York

United Airlines has launched its nonstop daily seasonal service between Glasgow and its hub at Newark/New York, celebrating the arrival of the inaugural flight into Glasgow Airport today (Saturday, 9th May).

United is the only U.S. airline offering a nonstop service between Glasgow and the United States. The route marks United’s return to Glasgow which the airline served previously up until October 2019 and is the first scheduled service by a U.S. airline between Glasgow and the United States since 2019.

“We are excited to return to Glasgow with the launch of our service to Newark/New York, further underlining the importance of Scotland within United’s global route network,” said Karolien De Hertogh, Director Sales UK and Ireland, United Airlines.

“With more seats and flights from Scotland to the United States than any other airline, our customers in Scotland can enjoy even greater travel choice and the possibility to connect seamlessly via our U.S. hubs to over 220 onward destinations across the Americas, whilst travellers from the U.S. can more easily fly to Glasgow and enjoy the city’s world-class museums, iconic architecture, historic pubs, parks and gardens, or travel beyond the city and explore the greater Highlands region.”

"We are delighted to welcome the return of the United Airlines direct service between Glasgow and New York, restoring one of our most popular long-haul routes,” said Kam Jandu, CEO, AGS Airports.

“The route has always been in strong demand, previously carrying significant passenger numbers as well as key Scottish exports such as whisky and seafood. Passengers can also enjoy access to the extensive destination across North America via Newark Airport thereby making onward connectivity much easier than before.

"This new service is a significant boost for connectivity, providing a vital link for travellers from the west coast of Scotland, whilst supporting inbound tourism, bringing more visitors to experience Scotland’s world-renowned attractions, including golf, whisky and spectacular landscapes.

"This achievement reflects the continued efforts of our team and strong collaboration with partners across the Glasgow City Region, as we remain focused on enhancing Glasgow’s network connectivity alongside delivering a best-in-class passenger experience as part of our £350 million investment programme.”

“This is excellent news for Glasgow and for visitors and business travellers on both sides of the Atlantic,” added Councillor Susan Aitken, Leader of Glasgow City Council and Chair of Glasgow City Region Cabinet.

”The United States is one of our most important international markets, and this new direct service will make it even easier for people to visit Glasgow, do business here, and experience everything our city and wider region have to offer.

“It strengthens Glasgow’s global connectivity, supports economic growth and inward investment, and underlines the city’s standing as an outward‑looking, internationally connected destination. Congratulations to our partners at Glasgow Airport and to United Airlines on the launch of this important new route.”

The new service between Glasgow and Newark/New York is part of United Airlines’ wider Summer 2026 schedule, underlining its position as the leading U.S. carrier across the Atlantic, with more destinations than any other U.S. airline.

As the leader in service from the U.S. across the Atlantic, United is continuing that momentum by serving a total of 44 destinations across the Atlantic in 2026 and offering nearly 770 weekly transatlantic roundtrips in Summer 2026.

Across the globe, in 2026 United will offer up to almost 930 daily flights to and from over 150 international destinations – including 43 that no other U.S. network carrier serves.
