Over £115,000 community support available via the FlightPath Fund in 2023

Over £115,000 community support available via the FlightPath Fund in 2023

More than £115,000 is being made available to good causes through Glasgow Airport’s FlightPath Fund in 2023.

Projects and groups of all sizes based in each of the four local authority areas supported by Glasgow Airport’s FlightPath Fund – Renfrewshire, Glasgow, East Dunbartonshire and West Dunbartonshire – can apply for support.

The Fund’s committee is urging neighbouring groups and organisations to submit applications and is also keen to support sustainability-themed projects aimed at improving the environment in the communities local to the airport.

Ronald Leitch, Operations Director at Glasgow Airport, said: “How we work with and support our local communities is a vital part of our wider sustainability strategy, so I am really pleased to confirm that this year’s total is the biggest yet since the FlightPath Fund resumed in 2021.

“I’ve seen for myself the positive impact the work of the FlightPath Fund has in helping so many worthwhile clubs, charities and community organisations that neighbour the airport over the years.

“We want to make sure as many worthwhile causes as possible continue to benefit, so it’s important that local groups and organisations in need of support reach out.”

The FlightPath Fund was established in 2010 to provide financial support to community groups and charities that are committed to improving the opportunities, facilities and services available to local people. Funding awards have continued to focus on three key areas:

  • Employment - We recognise the importance of making sure the future workplace is equipped with the skills that society and industry demands and, by supporting specific projects, we aim to help young people in the community reach their full potential. Awards will be given to exciting local projects that can break down barriers to employment through skills development.
  • Environment - To underpin our commitment to making a positive contribution to the environment, the FlightPath Fund supports projects with a focus on protecting and enhancing our natural environment.
  • The FlightPath Fund supports social and educational projects which are designed to bring positive benefits and to change the lives of people in the communities we serve.

Since 2010 more than £1.7 million has been allocated to over 750 groups, clubs, communitiy organisations and charities.

Almost £85,000 was awarded in 2022 by the FlightPath Fund to help support 64 groups, charities and projects within the communities local to the airport.

Over £8,000 was also raised by passengers travelling through the airport, who donated their spare currency via the six collection globes based in the airport.

Chair of the FlightPath Fund Archie Hunter added: “Since 2010, Glasgow Airport has ensured that tens of thousands of people across its local communities have benefitted from genuine support via the FlightPath Fund.

“The list of groups and organisations to receive support over the years is as diverse as it is long, and Ronald and the team at Glasgow Airport deserve a huge amount of credit for continuing to support the work of the FlightPath Fund and its committee.

“I would urge any local groups, charities or other organisations looking to gain funding in 2023 to visit our FlightPath Fund page to find out if they are eligible and if so, to reach out to us this year.”

The FlightPath Fund’s committee, which includes elected representatives from each of the four local authorities bordering Glasgow Airport, meets regularly throughout the year to consider all applications made and to allocate any agreed financial support.

The FlightPath Fund 2023 meeting dates this year are as follows:

  • March 24
  • June 16
  • September 1
  • November 3
  • December 8
