Glasgow Airport’s special assistance service tops accessibility study

Glasgow Airport’s special assistance service tops accessibility study

Glasgow came joint top alongside Edinburgh after both airports were named the best in the UK in terms of accessibility.

This is according to a new report by the flight comparison site Netflights, which carried out a review on 30 of the busiest airports in the UK using data from airport users.

Glasgow was recognised for the significant investments made in improving the airport experience for passengers with a range of disabilities in terms of service and facilities.

The Netflights assessment criteria factored in elements such as hidden disability lanyard schemes, initiatives to support hard-of-hearing and visually-impaired passengers and investment in infrastructure including the airport’s £140,000 Changing Places facility investment.

Glasgow Airport also received a ‘very good’ rating from the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) in its Airport Accessibility Report 2018/19 and won the Excellence in Transport Accessibility Award at the Scottish Transport Awards this year.

Mark Johnston, Glasgow Airport’s Managing Director, said: “The team works incredibly hard to provide a high level of customer service for our passengers and in particular those who need that little bit of additional support.

“We are very proud of our special assistance service and this latest study further demonstrates that the care and well-being of our passengers continues to be at the heart of everything we do.”
