Finance Secretary officially opens new consolidated car rental centre

Finance Secretary officially opens new consolidated car rental centre

Cabinet Secretary for Finance and the Constitution Derek Mackay has officially opened Glasgow Airport’s new £4-million consolidated car rental centre.

The centre, built by Cambuslang-based construction company CCG (Scotland) Ltd, offers a one-stop-shop car hire facility for passengers housing all of the airport’s rental partners including Hertz, Avis and Europcar.

Both the airport and its rental partners worked in partnership on the concept and design of the centre to ensure the process of hiring a car is a quick and convenient experience.

The new facility, situated next to the airport’s terminal, includes increased floor and office space and is equipped to handle the latest technological advances including premium contactless booking services, which include real-time updates via a customer’s smartphone on upgrade options on the cars available at the centre as they arrive.

Passengers can also complete the whole rental process using their phones and go from the terminal direct to their chosen car.

Amanda McMillan, Glasgow Airport managing director, said: “We are continually looking at ways to enhance our facilities for the millions of passengers who travel through our doors each year and this centre is part of a wider two-year £55-million investment programme at the airport.

“While the previous car rental area functioned perfectly well, its positioning behind the domestic arrivals area meant it was limited in terms of space and convenience and we felt we could greatly improve our car rental offering and provide our passengers with an enhanced service.

“The new modern centre is spacious and offers improved facilities and technology for our five rental partners. It has been designed to allow customers to walk through the facility, pick up their keys and conveniently access a rental car parked just metres away.

“We’re very grateful to the Cabinet Secretary for giving up his time to visit the airport and officially open our new consolidated car rental centre.”

Derek Mackay, MSP for Renfrewshire North and West, said: “I’m very pleased to be here for the official opening of the airport’s new car rental facility.

“Glasgow Airport has attracted a number of new long and short-haul services and this development will help build on the passenger experience.

“As constituency MSP for the airport, as well as my Government role, I see first-hand the work and continued investment Glasgow Airport is putting in right now, and this new facility is just one part of that.”
