Busy period for Glasgow Airport following a number of new route announcements

Busy period for Glasgow Airport following a number of new route announcements

Glasgow Airport enjoyed a busy end to October with a flurry of winter route arrivals and improvements to current services.

Ryanair’s new four-weekly and twice-weekly routes to Madrid and Krakow took off on Sunday, October 29, taking the airline’s total number of services operated from Glasgow Airport to 23.

The launch of these two new services to the Spanish capital and Poland’s second largest city follow the introduction of a number of Ryanair routes earlier in the year to Valencia, Lisbon, Palanga, Zadar and Frankfurt.

On Monday, October 30, Lufthansa also dramatically improved its seasonal weekly service to Germany’s Bavarian capital Munich. The service, which previously ran for 12 weeks during the summer, will now operate all year round up to five times per week. Germany’s biggest airline also announced a new daily service to Frankfurt starting March 2018.

Paul White, Glasgow Airport’s business development manager, said: “When it comes to adding dots to our destination map we’ve enjoyed a fantastic year, so much so that we now have 30 airlines travelling to more than 130 destinations across the globe.

“As well as consolidating our position and Scotland’s leading long-haul airport, we have also made significant additions in terms of our European connectivity this year.

“We’ve added an impressive 30 new routes and service improvements in 2017 to ensure we continue to offer our customers the very best destination choice.”
