Air Transat increases capacity on summer 2017 services at Glasgow Airport

Air Transat increases capacity on summer 2017 services at Glasgow Airport

Air Transat has responded to rising demand from Scottish travellers by increasing capacity by 12% on services from Glasgow this summer – its 25th anniversary of operations from the airport.

The Canadian leisure carrier is introducing larger aircraft on its services from Glasgow, with the vast majority of flights this summer to be operated by the airline’s state-of-the-art Airbus A330 with individual screens and over 100 channels of entertainment on demand.

Scottish travellers also have more choice of flights to Canada than ever this summer with a choice of direct services five times weekly to Toronto and weekly to Vancouver, and up to five connecting flights each week to Montreal, Calgary and Vancouver.

Lesley Kane, sales director, UK & Ireland of Air Transat, says: “Scottish travellers are taking off for Canada in record numbers this year, and we’re introducing larger aircraft to cater for this big increase in demand.

“2017 not only marks Canada’s 150th anniversary, but also a quarter century of Air Transat services from Glasgow, and we’re delighted to be the carrier of choice for tens of thousands of Scots again this year.”

Steven Marshall, head of airline marketing and development at Glasgow Airport, said: “Air Transat’s decision to increase capacity through the introduction of larger aircraft is great news for our customers and timely given it coincides with the airline’s 25-year anniversary of operating services between Glasgow and Canada.”

“As well as offering greater choice on direct routes to Toronto and Vancouver, this increase in capacity will also provide passengers with more opportunities to connect internally and visit other Canadian cities such as Montreal and Calgary.

“As the country celebrates its 150th anniversary this year there’s never been a better time to visit Canada, so Air Transat’s announcement is welcome news and further strengthens our position as Scotland’s leading long-haul airport.”
