With its brochure-ready beaches and upbeat Latino vibe, Miami is where the jet set go when they want to party. It’s a place to see and be seen, but there’s more to the city than clubbing and cocktails. Discover the allure of this Floridian gemwith a holiday to Miami from Glasgow Airport.

Art and architecture

The art deco Historic District that forms the core of swanky South Beach has become Miami’s signature neighbourhood. Arrange a walking tour at the art deco welcome centre, or simply wander through the streets around Ocean Drive to soak up the architectural eye candy. In recent years, the wider city has also become something of a cultural hub. Explore the Wynwood Art District, with its countless eclectic galleries, browse the contemporary exhibits in Pérez Art Museum (1103 Biscayne Boulevard), or time your visit to coincide with international art show Art Basel in December.

Escape the city

Surrounding Miami are the croc-haunted cypress swamps and mangrove forests of the Everglades National Park. Airboat in Everglades (17696 Southwest 8thStreet) runs tours from the city, with the chance to see turtles, alligators, giant snakes and flocks of exotic birds. South of downtown Miami are the emerald waters and coral reefs of Biscayne National Park– alandscape of incredible natural beauty and a watersports mecca. Dive ancient shipwrecks, island-hop by speedboat, or take a glass-bottom boat ride to the sea life in style.

Glamour and glitz

From the celebrity-studded cocktail lounges of South Beach to the vast casinos of Seminole Hard Rock Hollywood (4150 North State Road 7, Hollywood) and Miccosukee (500 South West 177th Avenue), Miami has plenty of places to party. Locals avoid the crowds of incomers at pint-sized wine bar The Room (100 Collins Avenue), or head to cosy tartan-wallpapered drinking den Wood Tavern (2531 North West 2nd Avenue) for creative cocktails and an authentic atmosphere. Later, get your groove on at retro club Rec Room (1690 Collins Avenue), or rub shoulders with A-list celebrities at Wall Lounge (2201 Collins Avenue).
