Key information

  • Make sure that all elements of your journey are prepared for – travel to and from the airport at both ends of your flight, foreign currency, hotels, travel insurance and car hire.
  • Check the Foreign & Commonwealth Office website for up-to-date information about the country you are travelling to.
  • Make sure that your passport is valid for at least three months from the date of your trip (for some destinations this needs to be longer) and that you have the necessary visa and health certificate (if applicable) for entry. This information can be found in our destination guides.
  • Check what vaccinations (if any) are needed for your journey and make sure you leave enough time to have them before your departure – some doctors’ surgeries will have to order these in for you.
  • For further information on travel-related health matters (including European Health Card (EHIC)) visit the Department of Health website.
