Community group receives a cash boost to help restore local park
A local community action group has received a £1500 cash boost from Glasgow Airport.
Linwood Active, an action group set up by local residents, will use the donation to restore Kintyre Park in Linwood.
Set up in October 2006, Linwood Active aims to reduce social isolation and increase local community participation by restoring local parks and open spaces, and creating play parks that encourage community interaction.
After months of fundraising - and the donation made by Glasgow Airport – restoration work on Kintyre park will shortly be underway, turning the land into a park that can be enjoyed by the whole community.
Linwood Active Secretary Lesley Compston said:" We are delighted with the donation from Glasgow Airport, we are a non profit making group so every penny we receive goes towards building a play park that the whole community will be proud of. We are lucky to have the airport as a local business and to benefit from the trust fund makes community links even stronger".
Paisley North MSP Wendy Alexander, who has been fully supportive of the group for a number of years said: "I am delighted that the unceasing efforts of Linwood Active to secure support for a new play park in Linwood have been recognised by the airport. As the mother of toddlers myself I know how important safe play areas are - particularly in an age where parents understandably want to know where their children are. This is a great boost to the community".
Derek Provan, Customer Service Director at Glasgow Airport said: "As a local business we are fully committed to building and strengthening our relationship with the local communities around the airport, and are delighted to be able to support this worthwhile community project.
"The members of Linwood Active have shown tremendous community spirit in their fundraising activities and should be proud of their achievements. I’m sure once the park has been restored to its natural glory it will be enjoyed by the local community for years to come."
The funding boost was made possible by the Glasgow Airport Community Trust Fund, supported by donations from airport passengers, which along with the BAA Communities Trust has contributed more than £35,000 to good causes in Renfrewshire this year.
