Airport provides local kids with essential fire safety skills
Glasgow Airport has agreed to fund a fire safety programme that will teach primary school children about the importance of fire safety awareness.
The airport, which is fully committed to supporting local projects in the Renfrewshire, West Dunbartonshire and Glasgow area, has donated over £1500 to the Children’s Safety Education Foundation. The foundation, who will use the airport’s donation to deliver the safety programme and purchase children’s safety booklets, plan to carry out a series of safety programmes to pupils at Moorpark Primary School in Renfrew and Bargarran Primary School in Erskine.
The community safety programme, which will be delivered to the schools over the coming months, is designed to provide information, knowledge and understanding on the key issues of fire safety. This will mean that when children grow up, they are better equipped to deal with hazardous situations.
Elaine Tait, Head Teacher at Bargarran Primary said: “I am delighted that Bargarran has been chosen to receive this resource. It will be an excellent addition to our current programme and help us to ensure that our pupils are very aware of fire safety and equipped to deal with any dangers they may encounter in the future”.
Frances Boyde, Head Teacher at Moorpark Primary said:”The staff, parents and pupils of Moorpark Primary are absolutely delighted to be part of this essential project. By participating in this project our pupils will be equipped with the skills and knowledge that will help them through life”
Speaking about the airport’s funding, Gerry McCluskey, Senior Fundraising Consultant at the Children’s Safety Education Foundation said: “We are absolutely delighted that Glasgow Airport has agreed to fund our safety education programme. As a non profit making organisation we rely heavily on financial support from local businesses, which can be hard in today’s
current climate. Therefore, I would like to take this opportunity to say a big thank you to Glasgow Airport for their support”.
Derek Provan, Customer Service Director at Glasgow Airport said: "The Children’s Safety Education Foundation is a fantastic charity, which teaches young people about the important issues of fire safety, in a practical and dynamic way. I’m sure the children at Moorpark and Bargarran Primary School will take away invaluable life skills that will benefit them now and in the future. We are delighted to be involved with such a worthy initiative.”
