In the Terminal
Facilities for the hard of hearing and blind and partially sighted
Induction loops are fitted in many areas of the terminal and satellites and are identified by the 'sympathetic ear' sign. Pay phones and credit card telephones are available in all parts of the airport are are adapted for hearing aids. There is a text pay phone on the first floor next to the WHSmith retail outlet. A number of payphones throughout the building have the ability to send emails and faxes.
Mini loops are installed throughout the building, including the reserved seating areas, boarding card check points and a number of check-in desks both in the main terminal and Terminal 2. Guide and hearing dogs are the only dogs allowed in the terminal buildings. The airport directional signs are black on yellow providing optimum contrast to assist all users.
Reserved seating areas
There are two reserved seating areas in the airport, identified by the use of the special needs pictograms. The area on the ground floor is located under the escalator at check-in. It provides the following features:
- Five low level flight information screens.
- Induction loop and mini-loop.
- Arms on both sides of seats.
- Space for wheelchair users.
- Help phone.
The reserved seating area in the international departure lounge is centrally located and provides two low level flight information screens, in addition to the above.
Security checks
The safety and security of our passengers is our number one priority. All passengers must pass through security control before they enter the departure lounge. Wheelchair users will inevitably activate the archway metal detector, and security personnel are obliged to hand search passengers who activate the alarms: therefore chair and passenger will be searched. You can ask to be searched in private, away from the main security control area if you prefer.
Toilets
Most toilet blocks include a unisex accessible toilet nearby. Parents travelling with children of the opposite sex are welcome to use the unisex accessible toilets.
