Passenger numbers continue to grow at Glasgow Airport
11 July 2012
Passenger numbers at Glasgow Airport have continued to grow with almost 735,000 people travelling through the airport in June 2012, representing an increase of 4.5% compared to the same period last year.
A strong demand for international travel, which increased by 8.5%, coupled with the launch of a number of new long-haul services including Emirates’ second daily service to Dubai, ensured the airport was able to maintain its steady pattern of growth which has stretched back to January 2011.
Amanda McMillan, managing director of Glasgow Airport, said: “Achieving growth in the current economic climate has been extremely challenging but by adding a host of new services we have been able to provide passengers with greater choice and flexibility and this has been a major factor in our success to date.
“Maintaining this level of growth will be difficult but the strong performance of a number of our airline and travel partners including easyJet, Jet2.com, Barrhead Travel and Icelandair has been very encouraging and we hope this trend will continue throughout the busy summer months.”

Icelandair recently confirmed it is to increase its schedule from Glasgow with an additional flight per week on Fridays starting 15 March 2013. The additional flight will improve connections from Scotland to Iceland and to Icelandair’s North American destinations.
