Glasgow Airport does it for the kids
21 December 2011
Kind hearted managers at Glasgow Airport, Paul Scott and Amanda McLellan helped ensure Christmas came early for two families after raising a staggering £2,000 for cash strapped charity, When You Wish upon a Star.
The money, which remarkably was raised in one day, meant two families could join the charity, which was flying out of Glasgow Airport on its way to visit Santa Claus in Lapland.
Asked by the charity if they could provide lounge access for the families, Paul and Amanda went one step further and secured flights for two more families. They also enrolled the support of airport partners Menzies, Tesco, WHSmith, Boots and Amex to secure goody bags and spending money for all the children.
The children, many of whom are being treated at either Yorkhill Children’s Hospital or the Southern General Hospital, also received a Christmas present from airport Chaplain, Keith Banks.
Paul and Amanda also managed to source £750 from the Glasgow Airport FlightPath Fund and over £200 from airport staff.
Paul Scott, customer service compliance manager at Glasgow Airport, said: “The money raised has been absolutely brilliant and the generosity of our airport staff, airline and retail partners has been overwhelming, everyone has really pulled out all the stops to raise funds for the children. As it was a last minute decision we genially thought we would get a few hundred pounds at most, which would have been great, so to get over £2,000 is just amazing.
“Next year we plan to fundraise all year and raise enough funds to send a group of families to Lapland.”
