Canadian airline spreads its wings at Glasgow Airport

14 June 2012

One of Canada’s leading airlines is to touchdown at Glasgow Airport on Thursday 14 June when it will launch direct flights to Toronto.

In partnership with Canada Travel Services, Sunwing Airlines will operate a twice weekly service, throughout the summer season, to what is often described as the cultural and financial capital of Canada.

Sunwing Airlines is part of the Sunwing Travel Group, Canada's largest leisure company. The airline currently serves over one million Canadians a year and operates a fleet of over 20 aircraft to destinations throughout Canada, the US, the Caribbean and Europe.

The airline has joined forces with Canada Travel Services, a Glasgow based firm with over 40 years experience in the Scottish travel industry, to offer flights and holiday packages to both Scottish and Canadian customers.

Francois Bourienne, commercial director of Glasgow Airport, said: "Scotland and Canada have always enjoyed strong cultural ties and the introduction of this new route to Toronto is great news for Glasgow and the wider tourism industry. The Sunwing’s service will be a welcome addition to the airport’s extensive long haul route network and we are looking forward to the launch of the inaugural flight on Thursday."

Duncan Wilson, CEO for Canada Travel Services, added: "We are thrilled to be working in partnership with Sunwing Airlines and launching a twice weekly service between Glasgow and Toronto. I’m sure the strong connections between the two countries will ensure this service will prove successful with both Scottish and Canadian passengers and I look forward to working closely with Glasgow Airport."

The new route will operate using a 300-seat Boeing 767 aircraft. Flights will be available on Thursdays and Sundays, with fares starting from £129 one way, including taxes and charges. More information available here www.canadatraveservices.com
