£50,000 up for grabs in airport's charity challenge

Local charities and community groups are being given the opportunity to secure £50,000 worth of funding from the BAA Communities Trust.

The BAA Communities Trust, which is the airport owner's grant making charity, is an independent Trust. Funded by annual donations from BAA, it supports community projects near its airports – Glasgow, Aberdeen, Edinburgh, Stansted, Heathrow and Southampton.

The Trust has pledged to donate the staggering amount to a charity or community group for a project in the field of education, the environment and/or economic regeneration/employment.

Amanda McMillan, managing director for Glasgow Airport, said: "The challenge fund is a great initiative, especially in today's current economic climate. It provides a great opportunity for a local group to secure the financial support needed to get a community project off the ground.

"We really want to see this money spent in the local area on a project, which will benefit the wider community, so if you, or someone you know is part of a community or local charitable group with a project linked to education, the environment and employment, please get in touch."

Your project should:

Create a significant and sustainable benefit to the community
Target one or more of the following areas: education; environment; economic regeneration/employment
Benefit a significant number of people
Provide clear evidence that the project will fulfil a local need
Provide clear evidence of the financial viability of the project.
